Bijk is the produce of a small number of Internet farmers in the Czech Republic. It is not a "new" tool, but a cleverly cultivated collection of existing monitoring tools. The principle advantage of an off shore monitoring company over internal tools is the assurance that if they can monitor my sites, you can get to them too. Bijk is "free" for a small number of servers (3) but I suspect I will cough up the $9 per month for Apache and MySQL monitoring and SMS alerts...
